Abstract :
Tension regulation of a strip accumulator in an industrial rolling process is considered. The accumulator system makes continuous operation of the process possible. Models for simulation and design are developed, and the pertinent disturbance is identified. The design of a feedforward compensator for disturbance rejection is shown. Since the design of the feedforward compensator was disturbance-specific, it could be formulated in an exact manner. The second-order compensator eliminated almost completely the effects of the disturbance on the output. The first-order compensator performed well considering its simplicity. Thus, for near-perfect knowledge of a system model, a feedforward compensator can offer excellent disturbance rejection
