Abstract :
The average particle size and number density in a gas stream are measured by the two-color laser transmissometer in different locations of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) power plant. In order to speed up signal collection and analysis, an IBM AT computer is used to control online laser intensity signal sampling and data processing. The operating software, written in the C language, performs data acquisition and data analysis by a series of functional modules. A data conversion board is used for the analog-to-digital signal conversion. The system has been tested and implemented in a test at a pilot scale MHD facility. The measured results illustrate the changes in particle size during the test
