Abstract
Summary form only given. Following photoexcitation of an impurity ion in a crystal, phonons are emitted associated with the nonradiative energy transfer from "hot" ion into the lattice environment. The nonequilibrium vibronic states populated during the nonradiative relaxation of Cr/sup 4+/ impurity ions in Mg/sub 2/GeO/sub 4/:Cr/sup 4+/ were measured using upconverted hot luminescence to obtain information on the phonon modes and electronic bottlenecks involved.
