Abstract :
This paper presents a description of an optically coupled device designed to drive triacs operating from the normal 115VAC line. The device provides optical isolation of the line triac from the logic trigger signal, and in addition performs the logic necessary to provide triac triggering only at the zero crossing of the AC line voltage. Theory of operation of the device and applications are presented.
