Survey of fast wave tube developments

In this paper, we provide a summary of recent developments in experimental fast wave devices, describe their characteristic features, and examine the promising trends for future research. The focus is primarily on high power gyrotrons which cover the millimeter wave band. A brief review of the status of the free electron laser (Ubitron) and the peniotron is also included because of the current interest in these devices.
