Abstract :
Summary form only given. The natural helix of the chiral smectic S/sub c/* phase of ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLC) permits quasi-phase-matched (QPM) second harmonic generation (SHG). QPM is achieved when the nonlinear susceptibility alternates in magnitude with the appropriate spatial period. In this work the theory of the collinear quasi-phase-matched SHG in FLC with a natural helix is developed.
