            Abstract :
Summary form only given. We show that with an appropriate choice of the rectangular waveguide dimensions, the spontaneous emission from quantum wells in a photonic wire can be highly polarization selective and a large amount of emission can be channeled into the lowest order guided mode. This gives rise to a large spontaneous emission coupling factor for photonic wire lasers.
