Abstract
It is well known that beam sticks and short tubes focus better than long tubes. In the past, it has been assumed that magnetic field asymmetries and mechanical tolerances are the root cause. This paper presents another reason for the worsening of transmission with tube length, namely, that it is due to tunnel emittance growth inherent in the beam.
