Abstract :
Summary form only given. When the sideband waves go through successive cavity round trips modulational instability (MI) competes with other instability mechanisms such as bistability and self-pulsing. We were able to individuate suitable conditions under which MI predominates though, far from being detrimental, leads to the generation of high repetition rate trains of pulses in pumped optical parametric oscillators.
