Abstract :
A gyro-TWT(1)is a high power amplifier of millimeter waves based on the negative mass instability. By amplifying a harmonic of the cyclotron frequency, the magnetic field required for near millimeter-wave operation can be drastically reduced. We have begun to construct an eighth harmonic gyro-TWTA driven by the helical electron beam produced by a TE111rf accelerator at gyroresonance.
