Abstract
The paper describes model-based methods to determine the region where a camera and light source should be placed. It presents new techniques that determine the region of light placements that guarantee specified object edges will be detected. These methods use geometric models of the objects and the characteristics of the camera, lens, digitiser, and edge detector to determine the region of acceptable camera and light-source locations. Other recent work in automatic camera and light-source placement is also described
