Abstract :
The paper discusses the angle estimation problem for an adaptive array for the case where the interference covariance matrix alone is measured (signal absent adaptation). It is shown that derivative constraints for the main beam do not solve the problem. The optimum weight for angle estimation derived from maximum likelihood estimation is given. This weight is shown to be closely related to a maximumlikelihood super-resolution method. This method is therefore proposed as an alternative to adaptive nulling
