Abstract :
This paper describes a simple and stable harmonically mode-locked erbium-doped fiber ring laser, that produces high power, 1.16 ps transform limited sech2 optical pulses at 1564 nm at a repetition rate of 1 GHz. The temporal and spectral characteristics of the pulses are studied. Soliton transmission over 40 km standard non-dispersion-shifted single mode fiber is demonstrated using this laser
