Abstract :
Pulse width modulated (PWM) inverters are increasingly being used to supply general power system loads. These loads can be unbalanced and also can draw nonsinusoidal currents. Both of these load types will affect the inverter performance, and can lead to inverter switch overheating. The paper presents an analysis of inverter performance when feeding these loads, and describes a procedure for determining the necessity for inverter derating
