  • Abstract
In a cellular communication system, the blocking probability is one of the most important performance parameters. This parameter is attributed to the traffic density and the terminal mobility as well. The corresponding mathematical formulations are developed in this paper for calculating the traffic parameters. In order to support a better service quality for ongoing calls, a guard channel approach for handoff calls has been adopted in the demonstration. It is shown that a few guard channels can improve the blocking performance of the handoff calls greatly while its effect on to the new generation calls is insignificant.
