Coking wastewater was treated by process of biological filter(BF) and bio-fluidized bed (BFB) with a special kind of carrier. The pretreated wastewater contained much more phenolic compounds with about 1460 mg/L of COD and 360 mg/L of NH+4-N. The wastewater treatment effect of this process was examined during biofilm colonization and operates formally. During biofilm colonization period, the treatment effect was greatly effected by biofilm colonization time. Since operates formally, the treatment effect was effected by HRT, reflux ratio, pH and aeration rate. The bio-fluidized bed system could achieve average removal efficiencies of 87.6% and 97.5% for COD and NH+4-N respectively at optimal operation condition, and NH+4-N in the effluent could meet the first level of National Discharge Standard.
