  • Abstract
    This paper presents the verification test results for a new digital excitation system. Testing was performed on a commercial hydroelectric generator connected to the power grid. Presented are the results of tests showing the operation of the voltage regulator at various load levels. Overfluxing, overvoltage, overexcitation and underexcitation limiters and protective function operations were also verified. Results illustrate the dynamic response of the excitation system and the power system, and are intended to help verify the models of the limiting and protection functions for use in power system stability studies. Also shown is the dynamic performance of the excitation system VAr controller as the generator load is increased from no load to near full load
