Abstract
A new construction for hybrid power filters, which need lower capacity of active component comparing with existing hybrid power filters is proposed. In this configuration a C-type filter is adopted. The C-type filter has the characteristic of low loss at the fundamental power frequency and presents a high impedance below the cut-off frequency. While most active power filters or hybrid power filters require a large power rating, in this configuration, the C-type filter carries most of the fundamental voltage and produces relatively comparative lower fundamental current. This reduces the power rating of the active power filter. The simulation results prove the configuration is effective to compensate the harmonics and reduce the size of the active power filter.
