Abstract :
This paper describes application of a model for predicting the flash point of binary alcohol mixtures. To confirm the predictive efficiency of the derived flash points values, the model was verified by comparing the predicted values with the experimental data for the selected mixtures. The flash points values determined were similar to those of predicted ones. However, the measured and predicted flash points were much different from those in MSDS. Therefore, manufacturers based on the results presented should be more careful when they use the MSDS values. Potential applications for the model concern the assessment of fire and explosion hazards, and the development of inherently safer designs for chemical processes containing binary mixtures of alcohols system.
