Abstract :
An asymmetric probability density function (PDF) due to the beating of interferometric crosstalk and amplifier spontaneous emission (ASE) in a system with optical preamplifier was observed experimentally and explained theoretically. The theoretical PDF of the directly detected signal with one in-band incoherent interferer and ASE noise was compared with the experiment and is found to be in excellent agreement.
