Abstract
We describe the application of the hypertext paradigm to the construction of courses for foreign language learning. Due to their particular characteristics these courses require suitable conditions in which the "linguistic training” may be carried out. The multimedia environment chosen by us has proved to be appropriate in that it supports an artificial linguistic world in which the learner may throw himself into a "full-immersion” course, developing both oral and written skills. In particular, we describe the algorithm we used for controlling word pronouncing during the substitution phase. The courseware has been tested and experimented in several classrooms of about twenty people for a period of two weeks with good results, concerning the linguistic learning and the appreciation level as well
