Abstract
The requirements can be approached using developments in the following areas:- (i) Design the connector and harness to be suitable for cut, strip, terminate and block machines. The author discusses the features necessary for the connectors for the above emphasising the advantages of a modular form of connector housing and tables one family of connectors which demonstrates this philosophy. (ii) New contact materials. The author discusses the need for these new materials and illustrate the advantages of some of those available.<>
