Abstract :
This paper presents a carrier-based modulation method for indirect matrix converters to reduce the switching losses. Based on discontinuous pulse width modulation technique, the number of switchings in one cycle period is reduced. Along with an algorithm to select a suitable offset voltage for generating the modulation signals of the inverter stage, the proposed strategy avoids the switching at the peak value of output current, which results in minimizing switching losses in IMC. Simulation results show that the proposed method has a good performance of the input/output waveforms as well as reduced the switching losses compared to the previous methods.
