Abstract
A diversity combined MAP technique is proposed for detecting digitally modulated radio signals for cellular and general wireless applications. In this technique, the conventional MAP algorithm is greatly simplified such that only the Euclidean distance, rather than the actual probability, is involved in the detection process. The simplified algorithm is then extended to diversity combined detection. It is shown that the resultant detection technique exhibits similar performance to diversity combined MLSE. However, for the current technique, the detection probability for each individual symbol is readily provided whereas in MLSE, a more complicated procedure is required for obtaining the symbol detection probability
