Abstract
Presents application studies of distributed arrays of sensor/actuator/controller units. Controllers are designed by quadratic optimization criteria and subsequent truncation to a spatially localized law, and the recursive architecture of Paganini (1999) is employed for information flow within the array. For each case study, the performance of the optimal, truncated, and truncated+recursive systems are compared by numerical simulations, and conclusions are drawn on the influence of the key design parameters
