Abstract :
This paper presents a 1-6-GHz scalable microradio receiver unit that can be used in radiation pattern measurement. With no mechanical movement or manual adjustment, the measuring environment with the scalable microradio receiver substantially enhances the degrees of freedom and reduces the cost and time in radiation pattern measurement. Implemented in a 90-nm CMOS technology supporting a 1-6-GHz frequency range and a 2.4-MHz resolution bandwidth, the proposed unit receiver occupied a 4.85-mm2 chip area and consumed 151 mW of DC power. In the front end of the receiver, the SII was below -13 dB and the downconversion gain was 9.7-11.3 dB in the frequency range of 1-6-GHz. The analog baseband processing circuit was a fifth-order Butterworth active filter and a programmable gain amplifier with a DC-offset cancellation loop. The analog-to-digital converter of the receiver achieved a peak SNDR and SFDR of 43.96 and 56.73 dB, respectively. The frequency synthesizer was an integer-N ring-based PLL featuring a frequency tuning range of 1 to 6 GHz that can be varied in increments of 200 MHz.
