Abstract :
The ATM-based B-ISDN is the most suitable core network on which to base wireless multimedia networks such as UMTS. The level of integration between UMTS and B-ISDN depends on whether mobile specific functions can be included into ATM standards. Macro diversity is a mobile specific function that has significant impact on the integration, as macro diversity is not easily supported by ATM equipment
