Abstract
Currently round trip delay (RTD) and pilot signal transmitter based schemes are being discussed for CDMA hard handoff (HHO). These RTD schemes involve complex target selection mechanisms and related performance degradation issues. The pilot signal transmitter based solutions add extra cost to the equation in addition to the related performance degradation issues. This paper addresses a cost effective RTD based handoff scheme with no extra hardware for CDMA to AMPS handoff situations. The same concept is also extended to CDMA to CDMA hard handoff with an extra CDMA base station receiver at the potential target cells, for handoff candidate selection
