Abstract :
When a proactive queue management policy decides on proper actions for permitting or denying data packets to the router buffer in order to control congestion, these actions can be implemented over a variety of time scales. A new control decision can be made according to the updated condition of the router buffer upon packet arrival. Also, the same control decision can be applied to a number of packets that arrive in sequence. The more the updates of the router buffer status the queue management scheme has, the more its assessment will be consistent to the actual situation of the queue in the router and the more often control decisions are renewed. Consequently, the more precisely these decisions can address the congestion condition. This paper presents the typical modelling of control decision update frequency of the changes rate of the router queue size. This can help providing sound adjustment of the congestion control and can automatically regulate the updates frequency dependent upon the packet arrival process. Thus, the frequency of updated control information is significant for efficient queue management based on proper decisions.
