Abstract
Circuit Breakers are integral part of power system protection. During short circuit in power system, circuit breaker opens the electrical circuit which creates an arcing between the separable contacts. Arcing is a complex phenomenon. Arcing is governed by coupled physics of electromagnetism and thermodynamics. Modeling arcing phenomenon by mechanistic way is a daunting task. This paper proposes modeling circuit breaker arc using concept of inverse problems to predict the breaker performance at various short circuit currents.
