  • Abstract
    The authors show that a thick patch with an annular gap matching capacitor is an optimum element from a practical design point of view giving wide bandwidth operation albeit at the expense of poor cross polarisation. Feed inductance and radiation pattern effects are investigated and a new patch equivalent circuit is formulated that gives significantly improved results over the existing lumped element model
