Abstract :
The paper describes a robust speech coder that uses a microphone array. The array processor functions as a noise canceller and a voice activity detector, thus giving the coder improved speech quality and lowered bit rates even in extremely noisy conditions (SNR<0 dB). Preliminary results have shown the effectiveness of the scheme under several noisy and reverberant room environments.
