Abstract
In the last years the sea navigation sector has been constantly growing up, bringing to new needs of many user categories and growing demand concerning safety and security of navigation, only partially satisfied in the current application scenario. The automation of operations, necessary to increase the level of service and match the growing demand, is becoming a critical factor. Satellite position based applications, location based information services and communication infrastructures integrated in mobile distributed systems becomes key enabling technologies for the development of new applications and services in the Maritime sector.
