Abstract :
The distributed queue dual bus (DQDB) architecture is emerging as one of the leading technologies for high speed metropolitan area networks (MANs). Although the topology of a DQDB is relatively simple, there are many influential factors affecting its performance. The authors propose a new multiple-class discrete-time queueing model associated with logical queues of a DQDB architecture. The model takes into account the physical position of the stations along the bus and the distance that information packets have to cover in order to reach their destinations. In this context, the queueing model is stochastically analysed at equilibrium under FCFS scheduling discipline and closed-form expressions for the mean response-times per class are presented
