Abstract
For a double-capacity water tank, which is a typical nonlinear process with time delay, step response tests are performed around the set-point, so as to make comparison with simulation results obtained by using an engineering software package named gPROMS. Quantitative function relationship between the real input and the virtual input is established through polynomial fitting, such that a prediction algorithm can be derived with respect to the liquid level of a double-capacity water tank system. Experimental results show that the predicted response almost fits that of the real system, therefore demonstrating the validity and reliability of the proposed method, which provides an alternative approach for monitoring and simulation of liquid level systems in engineering practice.
