Abstract
Technologies for record management systems have not been sufficient in meeting industry´s demands, especially for providing appropriate search options that are context-sensitive. Ontology has been a tool for providing useful vocabulary and meaning that enable decision-makers to find the relevant information quickly. This paper discusses an ontology development approach that is used to improve search-ability of an existing electronic record management system (EDRMS). The discussion in the paper focuses on various options of an appropriate ontology specification for the structural composition of the EDRMS. The adapted approach helps define technical components that are interrelated within the system. The approach can be reused in other projects in that an ontology development would be a vital part of solution design process. Application-based evaluation strategy was used to evaluate the developed proof of concept prototype. Result has indicated positive outcome in relation to improved search-ability.
