  • Abstract
    This paper proposes an active battery balancing method for series connected battery application. Charge equalization reduces damage to the battery string and increases its life span. The proposed method utilizes a multi-winding transformer to couple energy from bidirectional DC-DC converter to batteries. The equalizer achieves voltage balance of batteries with same ratings. The proposed method has limited number of active switches and the use of a single bidirectional converter for the entire battery string makes it compact and cheaper to implement.
