Abstract :
The Generation Expansion Planning (GEP) problem is a large scale, mixed integer and the most complicated optimization problem. In this paper, an application of Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm for solving the GEP problem is presented. In the formulation, the objective function is to be minimized and find out the least cost GEP problem. The GEP problem is considered for a test system of 14-years planning horizon having five conventional type and one non-conventional type of plants. The results are obtained for GEP problem with and without using the non-conventional plant (Wind plant). The results obtained for GEP problem with and without the Wind plant are compared.
