Abstract :
A modified model of fast saturable absorption for approximating the Kerr-lens effect in Ti:Sapphire crystals is introduced and the model performance is compared with that of a one-dimensional temporal model previously proposed by Sander. The model is then used to extract the dynamics of the pulses generated by a typical Ti:Sapphire femtosecond laser. Among the crucial parameters affecting the pulse characteristics, the modulation depth of the approximated saturable absorber, which can be controlled by fabrication process of Ti:Sapphire crystals, is investigated in this work.
