Abstract :
Recently, Kaiser (1990) proposed a new definition for the energy of a discrete-time signal, based on the physical energy of the signal producing system. In this paper, we extend this concept to the time-frequency plane. We derive and show that the Teager-Kaiser energy based time-frequency distribution has a very simple relation to the Wigner distribution, which is based on the classical Euclidean energy for signals. It turns out that the new distribution does not have any DC-cross terms, found in the Wigner distribution of real signals
