Abstract
A basic theory is outlined for a new class of phenomena in electromagnetic theory, associated with the realisation of true spatial-temporal solitons in microfabricated millimetre-wave planar guides. These phenomena show similarities with the nonlinear hydrodynamics of waves on the surface of a shallow fluid.
