Abstract :
The transient electromagnetic field in the calibration setup for ESD testing (ace. IEC 61000-4-2) is simulated. Particular attention is turned to the influence of the earth return wire layout and the time behavior of the field close to the target. Details of the simulator device are modelled in order to understand their influence on the field distribution. Measurements of the target current and of the electric and the magnetic field at selected points are performed and discussed. Excellent accordance between measurements and simulated magnetic field is achieved. The reasonable disagreements of simulated and measured values of the electric field are discussed
