Abstract
Chang-Fang compact line is the first 500 kV compact line in China. Phase to phase composite spacer is one of the key elements of this compact line. There are two special technical requirements, mechanical characteristics and electrical behavior, in the design of the spacer. In this paper, the mathematics model about the conductor movement system and the behavior of the spacer subjected to the force caused by the conductors movement, such as wind load, short circuit current and the ice-shedding, is established. Furthermore, the dimension of the spacer and position spacer placed on lines are obtained. Those results are adopted in the practical engineering of Chang-Fang 500 kV compact line
