Abstract :
Xiluodu ±500 kV HVDC Double-circuit-on-the-same-tower Transmission Project is the first HVDC transmission project with two HVDC circuits sharing the same converter stations in the world. This project is different from others in that the double circuits may operate independently in single-circuit mode or coordinately in double-circuit mode. This paper analyzes the hierarchical structure of the control systems for this kind of HVDC transmission systems, and studies in depth the double-circuit power control functions according to the unique characteristics of the double-circuit control hierarchies. A simulation model is built in PSCAD / EMTDC for a simulative analysis of three typical operation control modes. The simulation results verify the feasibility of coordinated controls for double-circuit-on-the-same-tower HVDC transmission systems and have a certain guiding significance for actual project operation.
