Abstract :
Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Station (GPSPS) plays an important role as the main peaking plant to sustain safe and reliable power supply in the network system. However, some problems existed in the turbine generator from time to time affected the reliability and availability of generating unit. This paper aims to share experience to solve the high temperature problem of generator slip ring of the GPSPS generating units. The key issue was that the operating temperature of generator slip ring was too high during operation. The root cause of problem was mainly due to the inadequate design of construction arrangement and ventilation of the slip rings. In light of cost effectiveness and simplicity, replacement of carbon brush with new design model was the most feasible solution to resolve the high temperature problem of slip ring. This experience sharing could also serve to provide reference to other generators having the same problem of generator slip rings in the stations.
