Abstract :
Partial discharge (PD) diagnostic using ultra high frequency (UHF) method has been developed recently. UHF method is the effective method in detecting electromagnetic wave emitted by PD activity in gas insulated switchgear (GIS). This paper focused on designing bow-tie antenna as UHF sensor to achieve 300 MHz bandwidth, return loss ≤-10dB and VSWR ≤2. After being designed and simulated, the most optimum antenna was fabricated on a double-layer PCB with FR4-epoxy substrate. As comparison, three antennas with different flare angles were also fabricated. The antennas characteristics were measured using network analyzer. At last, the four antennas were tested in high voltage laboratory to find the most sensitive antenna in detecting PD in GIS. PD was measured in two voltage levels, 26kV and 28kV.
