Abstract :
This work investigates the realization of a stripline fed on-chip aperture antenna on a SiGe BiCMOS seven metal layer backend process. An off-chip parasitic patch which is realized on a LCP substrate is fed by electromagnetic coupling through an aperture. The off-chip substrate is glued to the silicon die by using a compatible LCP bondply material. The antenna achieves a higher bandwidth and a high radiation efficiency compared to complete on-chip solutions. The antenna operates in a frequency range from 215–240 GHz while achieving a maximum realized gain of about 5 dBi. The simulated efficiency exceeds 55% excluding the feeding line.
