  • Abstract
System with multiple virtual machines creates IO Challenges for storage vendors. As the number of virtual machines per system increases, simultaneous IO requests coming from different virtual machines create storage resource contention. This contention degrades storage system performance which in turn impacts overall performance of the entire virtual infrastructure. To overcome, Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM) will need different mechanism for routing IO Requests to maximize the storage system performance in virtual infrastructure. In this paper, we present Virtual Disk IO Scheduler (vDIOS) for re-ordering of IO requests at VMM level. It will increase number of input and output operations per second (IOPS) of an existing storage system up to 3X. The vDIOS re-orders I/O requests in such a way as to minimize the rotational latencies and seek times for each IO request. In Experiment, we analyze the Random IO operations, and shown that the proposed approach greatly increases the through put of existing storage system.
