Abstract :
Rapid changes of technology in recent years, especially in biomedical engineering field have a big impact to the society. One of the forefront technologies that gaining a footprint among the researchers is retinal based-screening system. Researchers in both engineering and medical fields have studied extensively the property of retina as it provides visible points that exhibit various symptoms of diseases. The health of retinal blood vessels is a good indicator that can be associated to various diseases. The primary goal of this study is to build an algorithm to trace the blood vessels of the retina. Matlab platform has been utilized to exhibit the effectiveness of the proposed system. This study found out that blood vessels have been traced accurately and validated by using images from two databases, DRIVE and STARE. The best precision obtained is 96.30% while the best accuracy is 93.91%. In conclusion, retinal blood vessels tracing can be very helpful and useful to screen various diseases effectively.
