Abstract
Summary form only given. The electrical strength of vacuum gaps with a Pt-Ba cathode in experimental diodes and triodes with external copper anodes was investigated. Investigations were carried out on the diodes with negative anode voltage up to 60 kV. They helped to determine that the factor to limit maximum breakdown field in the space between the anode and cathode was heating of the Pt-Ba cathode by anode current. Heating of the Pt-Ba cathode up to a work temperature of 1370 K served as a criterion of the maximum breakdown field
